Market Monitor: Pennsylvania March 2022

The online poker market in Pennsylvania grew to $3.24 million in March 2022, one of its best months in two years. It represents a growth of 35% year-over-year, its second-best annual performance in market history.

The PA online poker market is now a four-horse race, though PokerStars — under a Monte Airy license — continues to dominate with a 60% market share. Its revenue of $1.94 million last month is a respectable uptick on the month prior when it reported a low of $1.64 million (though this was largely due to a long site outage that impacted operators US-wide).

However, year-over-year it is down 19% as competition eats away at its market lead. The clear second place goes to Caesars, whose WSOP site continues to grow. Active in the market for nine months, the operator reported a new market high of $919k in revenue to claim a 28% market share, its best outside the anomalous February.

PA online casino revenue continued its almost-unbroken upward trajectory, hitting a new market high of $115 million in March. However, the growth does continue to slow, at least relatively — the year-over-year gain of 20.6% is actually the lowest in market history.

The Big Three all hit their own market highs and their positions did not change. Leading Hollywood (under which BetMGM and DraftKings reside) reported $44.8 million for a 36% market share. However, that’s a slight dip month-over-month. Second-place Rivers-Philadelphia (Betrivers, Borgata) grew its share to 32% and number three Valley Forge (FanDuel) also chipped away at this lead, growing its share to 15%.
