Market Monitor: West Virginia April 2022

West Virginia igaming revenue analysis The three casinos licensed for igaming in West Virginia reported online casino revenue of $8.5 million in May, according to the latest figures released by the WV Lottery and compiled by PRO .

It represents a slight dip of 1.1% on the month prior, and around $600k below the market high of March 2022. Year-over-year, the market, still in its infancy, is up 80%. However, this is actually the weakest performance yet; it was up by a factor of three earlier this year. The market is slowly approaching a point of maturity, with seven of a maximum nine licensed online poker rooms live.

The largest licensee remains Greenbrier, with operators BetMGM, FanDuel and Golden Nugget all operating under this license. The trio combined to generate $4.8 million in revenue in May, enough for a 56% market share, in line with recent months.

The operators on the Charles Town license — DraftKings and PointsBet — together reported $2.6 million in revenue and a 31% market share. Mountaineer (BetRivers, Caesars) made up the rest, at $1.3 million and 14%.

For ease of cross-state comparison, PRO compiles the data on a monthly basis, interpolating between weeks that span multiple months to come up with accurate estimates of revenue and handle across each calendar month.
